# Add and edit contacts

> Add the people who receive your quotes, attach them to a client, choose a primary contact, and create contacts on the fly from the quote editor.

Contacts are the people your quotes are sent to. Every contact needs a first name, a last name and an email address, when you add it and when you edit it: the three fields are marked **REQUIRED**. Contacts that came in from Xero or from an imported quote may be missing one of them; fill it in the next time you edit the contact, or the changes can't be saved.

## Add a contact to a client

1. Open the client from [**Clients**](https://app.quoterium.com/clients).
2. In the **Contacts** section choose **New contact**. The contact is added to this client.
3. Fill in **First name**, **Last name**, **Email** and anything else you need: **Alternative email**, **Phone**, **Mobile**, **Job title** and an **Address** if it differs from the client's.
4. Tick **Primary contact for this client** if this is the person you usually quote. Only one contact per client can be primary.
5. Choose **Create contact**.

## Add a contact from the Contacts list

Go to [**Contacts**](https://app.quoterium.com/contacts) and choose **New contact**. Use **Company / client** to attach the person to a client (type a new name and pick **Create company** to add one), or leave it empty for a private individual.

## Add a contact while writing a quote

1. In the editor's **Prepared for** box, start typing in **Find a contact by name or email…**.
2. If the person isn't found, pick **New contact**. The same contact form opens, with what you typed already filled in.
3. Enter their first name, last name and email (all three are needed), and find or create their company under **Company / client**, or add the company later with **Edit contact**.
4. Choose **Create contact**. They become the quote's main contact, and the quote follows their company.

When Xero is connected, the same search also lists your Xero contacts; picking one copies it into Quoterium. See [Import contacts](https://quoterium.com/help/clients-and-contacts/import-contacts).

## Edit a contact

Select the contact's name (or **Edit**) on the client page or in the **Contacts** list, make your changes and choose **Save changes**.

## Good to know

- A contact without an email address (one imported from Xero, say) can still be named on a quote, but you won't be able to email it to them.
- To stop offering someone in pickers without losing history, archive them. See [Archive, delete and merge](https://quoterium.com/help/clients-and-contacts/archive-delete-merge-clients).

## From Xero

When Xero is connected, typing the person's name shows matching Xero contacts under the name fields, headed **In Xero**. Choose **Use** to fill in the name and email address; when you save, the contact is linked to that Xero contact.
