# Quick start

> From sign-up to your first accepted quote: set up your organisation, add a client, write and send a quote, then follow up, countersign and invoice.

From sign-up to your first accepted quote in ten steps. Each step links to a longer guide if you need it.

## Ten steps

1. **Create your account.** Choose **Start a free trial**, enter your organisation and your details, and pick your **Base currency**: the currency your business reports in. It can't be changed later. See [Create your account](https://quoterium.com/help/getting-started/create-your-account).
2. **Add your details and logo.** In [Settings → Organisation](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/organisation), check your company name, address, email and tax number. In [Settings → Branding & layout](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/branding), choose **Upload logo** and set your **Brand colour**. See [Organisation settings](https://quoterium.com/help/team-and-settings/organisation-settings) and [Branding](https://quoterium.com/help/team-and-settings/branding).
3. **Set your quote defaults and tax.** In [Settings → Quote defaults](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/quote-defaults), choose the **Default currency**, **Tax** and **Tax label**, how long quotes are valid and your standard terms, then click **Save changes**. Add your tax rates in [Settings → Tax & categories](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/tax). See [Quote defaults](https://quoterium.com/help/team-and-settings/quote-defaults) and [Tax rates and sales categories](https://quoterium.com/help/team-and-settings/tax-rates-and-sales-categories).
4. **Add a client and a contact.** On [Clients](https://app.quoterium.com/clients), choose **New client**, enter the **Company / client name** and click **Create client**. On the client's page, choose **New contact**: **First name**, **Last name** and **Email** are required. You can also add a contact straight from a quote. See [Add and edit clients](https://quoterium.com/help/clients-and-contacts/add-and-edit-clients) and [Add and edit contacts](https://quoterium.com/help/clients-and-contacts/add-and-edit-contacts).
5. **Build your library (optional).** In [Library](https://app.quoterium.com/library), add the services and products you sell with **New price item**, and standard paragraphs with **New text item**. Under **Quote templates**, choose **New template** to save a whole quote to start from. See [Create library items](https://quoterium.com/help/library-and-templates/create-library-items) and [Create and edit templates](https://quoterium.com/help/library-and-templates/create-and-edit-templates).
6. **Start a quote.** Click **New quote** in the header and choose a template, or **Empty quote**. Under **Prepared for**, find the contact: their company becomes the customer. Give the quote a title. See [Create a quote](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/create-a-quote).
7. **Add items.** Use **+ Price item** for what you are charging for (heading, description, **Qty**, **Unit price**, **Tax**) and **+ Text item** for introductions and explanations. **From library…** inserts a saved item; typing in a heading suggests matching ones. The editor saves as you go. See [Price items](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/price-items) and [Text items and subtotals](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/text-items-and-subtotals).
8. **Check and send.** Open the **Preview** tab to see the quote as your customer will. Then click **Preview & send**, check the recipients and the email, and click **Send now**. See [Preview your quote](https://quoterium.com/help/customer-view-and-e-signature/preview-your-quote) and [Send a quote](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/send-a-quote).
9. **Your customer reads and accepts.** They open their own link, no account needed. They can choose any options you offered, ask a question under **Questions & answers**, and click **Accept quote** to accept with their name and, depending on your settings, a signature and an email verification code. You get an email when they ask, accept or decline. See [What your customer sees](https://quoterium.com/help/customer-view-and-e-signature/customer-quote-page) and [Accepting a quote with an e-signature](https://quoterium.com/help/customer-view-and-e-signature/accepting-a-quote-e-signature).
10. **Follow up, countersign and invoice.** The [dashboard](https://quoterium.com/help/getting-started/the-dashboard) lists quotes with **Questions to answer** and quotes **Worth a follow-up**. Once a quote is accepted, it appears under **Accepted — countersign**: click **Countersign** to add your signature. If Xero is connected, **Invoice** creates the invoices from the quote. See [Follow-ups](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/follow-ups), [Countersign an accepted quote](https://quoterium.com/help/customer-view-and-e-signature/countersign-a-quote) and [Create invoices in Xero](https://quoterium.com/help/payments-and-xero/create-xero-invoices).
