# Create and edit templates

> Build a template from scratch or from an existing quote, and edit its items, wording, settings and payment schedule.

## Create a template from scratch

1. Go to [**Library → Quote templates**](https://app.quoterium.com/library/templates) and choose **New template**.
2. Enter a **Template name**, such as "Website build", and choose **Create template**.
3. The template opens in the editor. Add items, an introduction, terms and anything else you need.

## Create a template from a quote

A quote that worked well is often the best starting point.

1. Open the quote.
2. In its actions menu choose **Copy to template**.
3. Enter a name for the template and confirm.

The template gets a copy of the quote's items, text, settings and payment schedule, without the customer. The quote is unchanged.

## The template editor

Templates use the same editor as quotes. At the top, the template's name is the large title, and **Default quote title** beneath it is the title given to quotes started from the template (each quote can change it). Below are three tabs:

- **Components**: the items and text blocks. Use **Price item**, **Text item**, **Subtotal** or **From library…** to add content, and each item's **⋯** menu for options. The introduction is simply a text item, normally the first one.
- **Settings**: the **Template name**, **Currency**, **Tax**, **How customers see prices**, **Overall discount %** and **Document type**.
- **Preview**: how a quote made from the template will look to a customer.

Templates have no customer, quote number, dates or owner; those are set on each quote. Changes are saved automatically as you work.

Items in a template are linked to the library, so editing them works a little differently from a quote. See [Template components](https://quoterium.com/help/library-and-templates/template-components).

## Template actions

The main button at the top is **New quote from template**. The actions menu beside it has **Duplicate template**, **Set as default template** (unless it already is), **Change currency** and **Delete template**. The default template can't be deleted.

## Prices and currency

Template prices come from your base currency. When you create a quote from a template in another currency, prices are converted at that day's rate. See [Multi-currency quotes](https://quoterium.com/help/currencies-and-rates/multi-currency-quotes).
