# Use library items in quotes

> Add library items to a quote by typing a heading or using From library, and decide whether changes made in the quote should go back to the library.

## Add an item from the library

There are two ways to pull in an item while writing a quote:

- **Type a heading.** When you type in a new item's heading ("Item heading — type to search your library"), matching library items appear underneath. Pick one to fill in the whole item.
- **Use From library….** Between items and at the end of the list there is a **From library…** search box. Pick an item to insert it at that point.

With one or two characters, the search matches the start of codes and headings; with three or more, it looks for every word you type in the code, heading and description. Archived items are never offered.

The item is copied into the quote with its price converted to the quote's currency. It is marked **From library**, and **edited here** once you change it.

## Your quote keeps its own copy

Changing an item in a quote never changes the library, and changing the library never changes existing quotes. That keeps quotes you have already sent exactly as the customer saw them.

## Send an improvement back to the library

If you improve an item in a quote and want to keep the change, open the item's **⋯** menu:

- **Push changes to library** updates the library item, and the templates that use it, with this version. No other quote is changed.
- **Unlink from library** removes the connection, so the item is no longer marked as coming from the library.
- **Save to library** (for items that didn't come from the library) adds the item as a new library item.

Templates behave a little differently, because their items stay linked to the library. See [Template components](https://quoterium.com/help/library-and-templates/template-components).
