# Default payment terms and milestones

> For admins: set the payment terms and milestone schedule that quotes started from scratch begin with.

If most of your work is paid the same way, set it up once as the default. You need to be an owner or admin.

## Set the default

1. Go to [Settings → Quote defaults](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/quote-defaults).
2. Scroll to **Payment terms & milestones**.
3. Write your standard **Payment terms**.
4. Under **Default milestones**, add the schedule, using a preset or **+ Add milestone**. Each milestone has a title, a percentage and a due rule, as on a quote.
5. Click **Save changes**.

## When the default is used

- A quote started with **Empty quote** gets the default milestones.
- Any quote whose template has no payment terms gets the default payment terms.
- A quote started from a template gets the template's milestones instead (none, if the template has none). Add a schedule to a template to give its quotes a payment plan.
- Changing the default does not change existing quotes.

## Deposits

There is no separate deposit setting. A deposit is simply a milestone due on acceptance, such as the "Deposit" in the **50 / 50** preset.
