# Send a quote

> Use Preview & send to choose the recipients, check the email and the whole quote as the customer will see it, then send it.

Sending a quote emails each recipient their own private link to it. Nobody needs an account to open it.

## Before you send

- The quote needs a contact under **Prepared for**, and at least one recipient with an email address.
- Any [smart tags](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/smart-tags-and-placeholders) must be filled in.

## Send it

1. Click **Preview & send**. It is the main button on a draft, and is also in the **Actions** menu.
2. Under **To**, tick who should receive it. Contacts without an email address cannot be ticked. Anyone you untick is taken off the quote when you send; the primary contact always stays on.
3. Optionally add **CC** addresses, separated by commas. They are copied in on the email to the primary contact. If your organisation has set **CC when sending** under [**Settings → Emails & sending**](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/emails), those addresses are filled in already; change or remove them as needed.
4. Tick **Send me a copy** to get a blind copy. It goes to the quote's owner, which is usually you.
5. Check the **Subject** and **Message**. They start from your organisation's standard email, already filled in for the primary contact. Edit them as you like.
6. Leave **Send** on **Send now**, or schedule it for later (see [Schedule a quote](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/schedule-a-quote)).
7. Click **Send now**.

The right-hand side of the dialog shows the **Customer preview**: the whole quote exactly as it will appear.

The link to the quote is added to each email automatically as a **View quote** button, so you do not need to paste it. If you send to several people, consider a general greeting, or type *{customer_first_name}* in the message so each person is greeted by name.

## What happens when you send

- The status changes to **Sent** and the quote is locked for editing. See [Edit a sent quote and work with revisions](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/edit-a-sent-quote-and-revisions).
- The **Quote date** is set to today if it was empty. If **Valid until** is empty or already past, it is set from your default validity period.
- The email comes from your organisation, with the quote owner's name in the sender name. If the customer replies to it, the reply is added to the quote's conversation and the owner is emailed (see [Questions and messages](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/customer-questions-and-messages)). See [Email sending settings](https://quoterium.com/help/team-and-settings/email-sending-settings).
- A **Customer link** line appears under the quote heading, with **Copy**, in case you also want to share the link another way.
- The send is recorded in the quote's History.

If a customer says the email has not arrived, see [Emails not arriving](https://quoterium.com/help/troubleshooting/emails-not-arriving).
