# Xero connection problems

> Fix common Xero messages: an expired connection, no organisation selected, missing account codes or tax rates, and contacts that no longer exist.

Connecting and using Xero is described in [Connect Xero](https://quoterium.com/help/payments-and-xero/connect-xero) and [Create Xero invoices](https://quoterium.com/help/payments-and-xero/create-xero-invoices). If something goes wrong, the message usually says what to do. Connection settings and invoices are for admins.

## "Xero connection has expired" or "is not usable"

Xero connections need renewing from time to time, for example after a long period without use or if access was revoked in Xero. An admin goes to [**Settings → Integrations**](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/integrations), chooses **Reconnect** and signs in to Xero again. The last error from Xero is also shown on that page.

## "No Xero organisation was authorised"

Xero sent you back without access to any of its organisations, usually because its screen was closed before an organisation was chosen. Choose **Connect to Xero** (or **Reconnect**) again and, on Xero's page, select the organisation to connect.

## "No Xero organisation selected"

If your Xero login has several Xero organisations, choose the right one in **Xero organisation** on the Integrations page and save.

## "Set a default sales account code"

Every invoice line needs an account. Choose a **Default sales account** on the Integrations page, or give your sales categories an **Accounting code** under [**Settings → Tax & categories**](https://app.quoterium.com/settings/tax).

## Tax rates don't match

Each of your tax rates is matched to a Xero tax rate with the same percentage. If the **Tax rates** table on the Integrations page shows **Auto · no match**, or Xero has several rates with the same percentage, choose the Xero rate yourself and save.

## "The linked Xero contact no longer exists"

The contact was deleted or archived in Xero, or you connected a different Xero organisation. The link has been removed; choose an existing Xero contact or create one when raising the invoice, or relink the client. See [Link clients and contacts to Xero](https://quoterium.com/help/clients-and-contacts/link-clients-to-xero).

## "Invoices can only be raised once the quote has been accepted"

Accept the quote first, or record the acceptance on the customer's behalf.

## "An invoice for the whole quote already exists"

Options already raised are marked **already raised** in the invoice dialog. Use **Refresh** in the quote's **Invoices** panel to update invoice statuses from Xero.

## I can't see Create invoice in Xero

It only appears for admins, on accepted quotes, when Xero is connected. If **Connect to Xero** is greyed out, Xero isn't available on your account yet: [contact support](https://quoterium.com/support).
