# Optional, multiple-choice and editable-quantity items

> Let customers tailor the quote: optional extras they can tick, groups of alternatives to choose from, and quantities they can change.

Some quotes work better when the customer can make choices. Quoterium offers three kinds of choice, all switched on from an item's **⋯** menu. The totals and payment schedule update as the customer chooses, and their choices are saved when they accept.

## Optional items

1. Open the item's **⋯** menu and choose **Optional item**.
2. Tick **pre-selected** under the item if it should start included; leave it unticked to offer it as an extra.

The customer sees a checkbox next to the item, marked "Optional", and can include or remove it. Unselected optional items are not counted in the totals.

## Multiple-choice groups

Use multiple choice to offer alternatives, such as three service levels.

1. Put the alternatives next to each other.
2. Choose **Multiple choice** in each one's **⋯** menu. Consecutive multiple-choice items form one group, labelled **Multiple choice · pick the default**.
3. Tick **default** on the option that should start selected, or leave them all unticked. Clicking the current default again clears it.

The customer sees the group as "Choose one · or none", with a round button for each option. They can pick one option, or click the chosen option again to choose none. A text item, a subtotal or an ordinary price item ends the group, so you can have several groups in one quote.

An item cannot be optional and multiple choice at the same time.

## Editable quantities

Choose **Editable quantity** in the **⋯** menu to let the customer change the quantity, for example the number of licences or attendees. The item shows **Editable qty**, and the customer sees a quantity box. The quantity must be more than zero when they accept.

## What the customer sees

The bar at the bottom of the customer page shows the live total and how many options are selected, for example "2 of 5 options". See [How customers choose options](https://quoterium.com/help/customer-view-and-e-signature/how-customers-choose-options).

In the editor, the totals reflect your defaults. Use the **Preview** tab to try the choices as the customer would; choices made in the preview are not saved.
