# Quote settings, dates and expiry

> What you can change on a quote's Settings tab: currency, tax, price display, document type, quote date, expiry date and owner, and how quote numbers work.

Each quote has a **Settings** tab next to the **Quote** tab. The column on the right of the Quote tab also summarises the currency, rate, tax mode and price display, with an **All settings** link.

## Currency & pricing

- **Currency**: **Change** converts every price to another currency; **Refresh rate** re-prices at today's rate. See [Change a quote's currency](https://quoterium.com/help/currencies-and-rates/change-a-quotes-currency).
- **Tax** and **How customers see prices**: see [Tax and how customers see prices](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/tax-and-price-display).
- **Show item codes**.
- **Overall discount %**: see [Discounts, cost and margin](https://quoterium.com/help/writing-quotes/discounts-cost-and-margin).

## Document

- **Document type**: Quote, Proposal or Estimate. This word is used in the heading, buttons, emails and PDF. New quotes take it from the template or from **Settings → Branding & layout**.
- **Quote date**: the date printed on the quote. If you leave it empty, it is set when you first send.
- **Valid until**: the quote expires at the end of this day.
- **Owner**: the person responsible for the quote. Their name, job title, email and phone appear under "Prepared by", and they receive the notification emails. Admins can change the owner; other members see it read-only.

## Quote numbers

A quote gets its number as soon as it is created: your prefix plus the next number, for example Q-42. Admins set the **Quote prefix** and **Next number** in **Settings → Quote defaults**; the next number must be higher than any number already used. When you start a new revision, the customer page and PDF show "rev. 2" (and so on) beside the number.

## Expiry

- New quotes are valid for the number of days set in **Valid for (days)** in Quote defaults (30 unless changed).
- When you send or put a quote back online and its **Valid until** date is empty or already past, it is reset to that many days from today.
- After the end of the **Valid until** date the customer can no longer accept the quote, and it is marked **Expired**. They can still view it unless your admin has blocked viewing of expired quotes.
- To give the customer more time, reopen the quote, change the date and put it back online. See [Edit a sent quote and work with revisions](https://quoterium.com/help/sending-and-follow-up/edit-a-sent-quote-and-revisions).

Most settings are locked while the quote is live with the customer. Take it offline to change them.
