Templates are built from library components. Each price or text item in a template is linked to an item in the library, so the same component, such as your standard terms or a "Discovery workshop" item, can be shared by several templates and kept up to date in one place.
How components are created
- When you add a new price or text item to a template, it becomes a library component automatically once the template is saved. A component needs a heading, which is also its name in the library: an item without one is added to the library once you give it a heading.
- When you use From library… in a template, the template links to that library item.
- Subtotals are not components.
In the editor, linked items are labelled Library component, with used in N templates when it's shared.
Editing a component
When you change a linked item in a template, Quoterium doesn't change the library straight away. The item is marked Component edited and you choose what to do:
- Update component: changes the library item and every template that uses it. The button shows how many templates are affected.
- Save as new component: leaves the original as it is and saves your version as a new library item, used by this template only.
- Discard changes: throws away your edit and shows the library version again.
Quotes are never changed by any of these choices.
Changes made in the library
If you edit a component in the Library (or update it from another template, or push changes from a quote), every template that uses it shows the new version the next time it is opened.
Keeping a private copy
To stop a template following the library for one item, open the item's ⋯ menu and choose Unlink from library. The template keeps its own copy, and later edits no longer touch the library item.
