Some costs are naturally a percentage of others: project management, contingency, a service charge. A percentage-priced item works its price out from the items above it, so you never have to recalculate it by hand.
Set it up
- Add a price item below the items it should be based on.
- Open its ⋯ menu and choose % of items above.
- Enter the percentage in % of items above. It starts at 10.
A line under the item explains the sum, for example "10 % of £8,000.00 (items since the last subtotal) = £800.00".
Which items it counts
- Price items above it, back to the previous subtotal or the start of the quote. Insert a subtotal to limit it to one section.
- Only items that are included: unselected optional and multiple-choice items do not count.
- Subscription items are not counted.
- Earlier percentage items in the same section are counted, so two percentage items compound.
Good to know
- A percentage item has no quantity, so it cannot have an editable quantity or be a subscription. It can still have a discount, a tax rate, a sales category and a cost.
- It can be optional or part of a multiple-choice group.
- On the customer page it shows the percentage and "of items above" instead of a quantity and unit price.
- Changing the quote's currency does not affect it directly: it recalculates from the converted items above.
- Library items can be percentage-priced too, so you can keep "Project management 10%" ready to insert.
