Discount on an item
- Open the item's ⋯ menu and choose Discount.
- Enter the percentage in Disc %.
The item's total is reduced by that percentage. When the customer sees full prices, the item shows "10% discount applied" (or whatever the percentage is). Choose Discount again to remove it.
Discount on the whole quote
In the Totals panel, the Discount line has two boxes: a percentage and a fixed amount in the quote's currency. You can use either or both. The percentage is applied first, then the fixed amount. The overall percentage can also be set on the Settings tab as Overall discount %.
- The discount cannot be more than the subtotal.
- Tax is reduced in proportion, so the customer pays tax on the discounted amount.
- Only one-off items are discounted; subscription totals are not affected.
- The customer sees a Discount line in the totals, with the percentage when there is one.
Cost, markup and margin
To keep an eye on profitability, record what an item costs you:
- Open the item's ⋯ menu and choose Cost & markup.
- Enter the Cost per unit.
- Either set the unit price yourself, or type a Markup % or Margin % and the price is worked out for you.
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the price. The item shows the resulting Profit. For a percentage-priced item, enter the cost and the profit is the item's amount less that cost.
When every included item has a cost, the Totals panel adds a box with the quote's total Cost, Profit and margin.
Everything marked Hidden from customer stays private: costs, markup, margin and profit never appear on the customer page or in the PDF.
